There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction. — John F. Kennedy
Fear and anger are debilitating and pervasive emotions. They can disrupt our lives and dreams, cause us to feel stagnant, and sometimes, even hopeless. Imagine them as suitcases, the stereotypical “baggage”. How much baggage are you carrying around? Do you take your baggage to work or does some of it even stem from work situations? Take a hard look at your relationships; is baggage interfering in the growth and support that you deserve within your relationships? What could you do by dumping all that fear, anxiety and anger?
From childhood, we all learn coping mechanisms, ways to deal with stressful situations and people. Not everyone has good coping skills and we all have times that we feel like we have run into a wall. Positive thinking, gratitude practices, therapy, mindful living may all be considered coping skills and are certainly effective against the negatives in our life, but there is one important component to all coping mechanisms that creates lasting change… action.
Following up positive talk, behavior and desire for a shift with positive action reinforces the change in our brains. The action cements the positive reinforcement required to effect and maintain positive change and the release of negative emotions like anger and fear.
A lot of times people look at the negative side of what they feel they can’t do. I always look on the positive side of what I can do.” — Chuck Norris
What is the positive side of what YOU can do to release negativity and step into a more empowered life?
Within our empowerment seminars at Fire Power Seminars, we get to see a lot of release while facilitating activities that provide positive thought and action. One of the most powerful activities (and most popular!) is Board Breaking.
At the beginning of our board-breaking seminar, we talk about how to break through obstacles, which many times present in the form of fear and anger. Participants are invited to write their fears, anger, emotions, limiting beliefs on a board. Beginning the board-breaking activity in this way puts the participants in charge of identifying the release, creating the break-through that they want to achieve.
After the stressors are written on the boards, everyone is invited to step forward and literally break through their boards — action! In one (and maybe two) movements, the physical act of breaking the board and “breaking” the emotions holding you back is achieved — success! This combination of identification, stress and action yields amazing results. We watch the smiles burst out on people’s faces and sometimes tears. Participants can keep the boards as a reminder of this powerful action and their success.
For those that are participating in a fire walk after board breaking, the boards can become part of the fire, burning down to become the coals that participants walk on — another potent experience that adds multi-layers of positive reinforcement.
Board-breaking events and empowerment seminars are available for groups and companies. Take your team to the next level and join us in facilitating shifts in personal beliefs and mindsets.
