In June 2012, we hosted the South Shore Diving Team with Coaches and Parents.
Hi Connie and Karen,
I understand that you are seeking other young Firewalkers to help them overcome fear in their lives and in the future. All I can say is that the experience I had with my team was nothing short of powerful. As you know, South Shore Diving came to Florida for our annual springboard dive training this past June. We set up a night where all the athletes, and for those parents brave enough, to participate in something I was excited about but had no idea the impact it would have.
The kids were a little nervous, and frankly, so was I. You started the seminar and told us that it was important to take this seriously and my team did. I actually think the hardest part was all the activities prior to the actual Fire Walk!
Your instruction on how to handle the Fire Walk was spot-on and everyone (all 38 of us), did the Fire Walk in less than 15 minutes and some did the walk twice! I think you told me it was a record time! The kids were over the moon with joy and had a strong sense of accomplishment by facing a major fear and overcoming that fear with confidence, faith, and proper instruction.
The next day after the Fire Walk – I couldn’t believe the changes in my kids. Many of my divers attempted dives they had never done before, (or not willing to do before), and even some of the parents that went through the seminar overcame a fear of heights and dove off the high board. Understand that this should not be minimized, as I know one parent has always had a strong fear of heights and she overcame this fear from the confidence she gained from the seminar. Prior to your seminar, I had 17 kids make Nationals on 1 meter. Since your seminar – I had 23 kids make Nationals and had 10 divers make Nationals on the 3-meter springboard just 2 days after your seminar! Simply amazing!
For those whom maybe apprehensive about doing the Fire Walk: I think, as parents and teachers, we can often mitigate learning under the guise of protection when in fact we are denying the same lessons we had to learn ourselves growing up. We actually end up putting our fears on others instead of facing them. Your seminar forces people to face their fears while focusing on the courage to move forward!
I can’t wait to do another seminar with your team and appreciate your follow up since our experience with you. Any team or school that decides to do the Fire Power Seminar with you can enjoy the comfort of wisdom!
