Real Change Starts on the Inside

Dec 11th, 2011

real change starts on the insideStop. Breathe. Take a moment to reflect on your life.  Where are you on your journey?  Where has your path taken you thus far?  Are you satisfied with your life? What more do you want out of life?

With Thanksgiving and the Holidays around the corner, it is time to reflect. This is a great time to take inventory, to go inside and notice. By becoming aware of where you are in life as an observer, you can make distinctions about your patterns to decide what changes you want in your life.

Ready to play and take action? Get six (6) pieces of paper and head each with one of the following questions. Under each heading, write your answers down. Just let the data flow:

  • What is working in your life?
  • What is not working in your life?
  • What positive qualities do you possess? (NOTE: Ask your family, friends and professional associates to list on a sheet of paper what they consider your strengths to be. You will be amazed!)
  • Whom do you consider to be friends/mentors?
  • What beliefs / fears are holding you back?
  • What do you still want to accomplish?

After you have completed the above lists, spread them out so you can see them all at the same time. What do you want to change? What are your reasons for wanting to change?  What is your driving force/purpose for change? Who can assist you in creating change? Clarity is power. Be clear on your reasons for making the decision to change!

After completing the above, get more paper and make a new heading for each area you want to change; i.e.: Health/Body, Relationships, Prosperity, Self-Esteem, Spirituality, and Career. Be honest with yourself. Go inside and decide what changes you want for YOU. Under each heading, write down what you want, and your reasons for wanting it. And finally, write down the actions you can take to create the change. For example, if one of the things you want to change is your Health/Body, it may look like this:

Health/Body

What I want: A vibrant, healthy body at its optimal weight

Reasons: To have optimal energy; to feel good about myself when I see my body naked in the mirror; to be a role-model for others; to do amazing outdoor activities with friends and loved ones (boating, skiing, hiking, etc.)

Action Items: Find a personal trainer and/or nutritionist who are in alignment with my values to work me. Be diligent about doing the research and learning what changes I need to make.

Clarity is Power! Be clear on your reasons for making the decision to change!
